FILTER AIDS

WOOD FLOUR - POWDERED CELLULOSE

The benefits

  • A reduction in the quantity of waste
  • Rapid pre-coating
  • Lower consumption

The benefits

  • Lengthening of filtration cycles
  • Stability of pre-coating
  • No abrasiveness

The benefits

  • Safe
  • Waste optimized
  • Recovery of cutting fluids

THE BENEFITS IN DETAIL

  • A reduction in waste and losses of cutting fluid: Thanks to the low use of filter aids.
  • A reduction in consumption: Due to the low density (a reduction of 30 % to 70 % compared to diatomaceous earth)
  • The speed of pre-coating: The fibres rapidly cover the meshes of filter media.
  • Stability of pre-coating: The fibrous layers withstand sudden changes in pressure, hide defects in fabrics, and limit the penetration of impurities and filter aids.
  • Safe: Cellulose does not contain crystalline silica, unlike diatomaceous earth.
  • No abrasiveness: There is a decrease in wear on auxiliary equipment and filters.
  • Recovery of cutting fluids: The fibres increase the mechanical cohesion of filter cake. It forms “bricks” more easily and recovery of cutting fluids is more effective.
  • Waste optimized: It is possible to recover the metals after incineration.

HOW IT WORKS

During filtration without a filter aid, solid particles rapidly block the surface of the filter. The use of a “pre-coating” agent is recommended to circumvent this problem. The desired product may be the separated solid, the filtrate or both.

In concrete terms, the organic filtering agent is diluted in the filtrate or in water and then deposited on the filter. The pre-coating forms and retains solids, while preserving the flow through the filter medium.

The use of a “pre-coating agent” protects the filter medium from clogging, while preserving a strong flow for a longer period, making removal of the filter cake easier.

If your suspensions contain solid particles, with adhesive or viscous impurities, a quantity of filtering agents are added during the filtration cycle: this is alluviation. Using this solution, the filter cake gradually thickens but remains porous, which allows filtration cycles to be longer.
